Chef Kate Bates

Chef Kate is the owner and operator of  Wheat & Bee, the delightful craft bakery. It is where delicious baked goods are always on the menu. Chef Bates, has more than 30 years of experience in classic French pastry and breads and American cakes and desserts.

Wheat & Bee Bakery uses only the finest quality ingredients and techniques to create our cakes and desserts. Committed to creating accessible and amazing selections of desserts for everyone to enjoy. Our goal is to create not only cakes, but treasured memories. 

A Lifetime Vision

Chef Bates began her culinary career in 1992 by enrolling in the Hospitality program at Columbus State Community College in Columbus OH. The three year professional apprenticeship program provided the foundation for the many years to come. Chef Bates held several Pastry chef positions in Columbus before heading to New York City in the early 2000's. It was there she learned many of the sophisticated techniques behind her recipes. She arrived in Tampa Bay in 2008 and has held Pastry Chef positions at St Pete establishments like Cassis Bakery, FarmTable Cucina, Locale Market and Swah-Rey.
